Case Study: Effective Traffic Management for Dysart Road Redevelopment

Client: Winvic Construction
Location: Dysart Road, Grantham
Date: July 2024
Duration: 5 months
Value: £340,000

Overview

TSM was appointed by Winvic Construction to deliver comprehensive traffic management for a major redevelopment project on Dysart Road, a key route in Grantham used heavily by both residents and local businesses.

The scheme involved managing a complex one-way diversion along a one-mile stretch of road, supported by a combination of daytime and night-time full road closures. The purpose was to facilitate extensive carriageway redevelopment, resurfacing, and pathway works.

With just a two-week lead-in time, TSM had to act swiftly and strategically to meet tight deadlines, coordinate with stakeholders, and ensure uninterrupted access for local traffic.

Challenges

Tight Lead-In Time: Just two weeks to plan and deploy a full TM solution.

Maintaining Access: Ensuring uninterrupted access for residents, businesses, emergency services, and deliveries during closures.

Equipment Requirements: Sourcing and installing 800m of pedestrian barriers, 500 cones, and around 80 signs and frames.

Coordination: Close collaboration with local authorities and stakeholders to avoid disruption and adapt to changing requirements.

Phased Working: Full closure of the entire stretch was not possible, requiring careful planning and phased implementation.

Overlapping Projects: Local authority works were scheduled to take place within the same area during the project window.

Our Solution

TSM quickly mobilised resources to meet the aggressive two-week start deadline. The team provided a full turnkey solution including:

  • Development and execution of detailed TM plans addressing safety, logistics, and stakeholder requirements.
  • Procurement and delivery of all traffic management equipment well ahead of project start.
  • Installation of a clear one-way diversion system with strategic signage to guide motorists.
  • Deployment of up to 8 experienced TM operatives during full closures.
  • Implementation of phased closures and marshalled access points to maintain resident and business access.
  • Ongoing site visits and plan adjustments to accommodate real-time needs.
  • Attendance at regular meetings with Winvic and local authorities to adapt plans and ensure seamless integration with third-party works.

Results

The Dysart Road scheme was delivered safely, smoothly, and on time, with TSM’s proactive and responsive approach key to its success. Not a single night shift was missed during the five-month programme, and our operations received no recorded complaints from residents, businesses, or the local authority.

Access was maintained at all times as promised, and all traffic management equipment and access provisions were delivered exactly to schedule. By maintaining strong communication with stakeholders and adapting quickly to evolving site requirements, TSM helped ensure Winvic’s works progressed without delay or disruption.

Client Feedback
